Tones And I has returned with a new single called “Charlie.” The song is available on all streaming platforms, and there is also an official lyric video. To celebrate the release, Tones And I created a special live video of the track that is now streaming on her official Youtube channel. “Charlie” is a disco-inspired track where Tones And I sounds bolder and brighter than ever.
This upbeat, bass-driven song is simply about the singer’s chocolate labrador, “Charlie”, and how much she misses him when she’s on tour. “It was a song that came out of nowhere and was finished in three hours. Fun was the main goal, so we made it as funky as possible.”
During a recent interview with Triple J, the pop star said how grateful she was for the international opportunity. “What an amazing experience to do this on the Jimmy Kimmel show! It’s a big deal for me, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. Triple J will always have a special place in my heart, but this is a new adventure for me.”
Her latest hit follows right after the coattails of her feature in Macklemore’s new single, “Chant,” where the two teamed up and debuted the song on Good Morning America with a performance in New York City’s Central Park.
Their partnership for Macklemore’s new release was hinted at in late 2021 when Tones posted a photo with the American rapper on Instagram. Her caption read, “I ACTUALLY went thrift shopping with @macklemore today,” she wrote in the caption back then. And tomorrow afternoon I’m gonna play music somewhere in Seattle!! Time and place will be announced tomorrow morning!! Let’s go!” And since the picture showed the pair in a studio, whispers of collaboration naturally arose.

“Charlie” Marks the Third Release for Tones and I in 2022
Despite the real story behind the song, fans haven’t held back their comments on how much of a sonic delight “Charlie” is.
- Some of these include:“Now this is a song I wouldn’t be befuddled to hear that they play at the club.” – No-man Baugh
- “Just discovered this while looking for random music to motivate me while I write. I’m on my sixth repeat!” – J Rich2
- “Saw you on Kimmel tonight. Congratulations t’was a great performance! Loved it.” – Clem Doherty
- “Such a catchy tune! A real earworm.” – Qshunt Music // FPV
Aside from her pup-inspired anthem and the Macklemore collab, the Australian artist also released “Eyes Don’t Lie” last April 29. It seemed like Tones and I was preparing to release a brand new album in August this year, sharing with triple j that she was in the works to produce an album that was different from what she usually did.”
However, with her collaborations and touring schedule, it seems she went the singles route first. “I informed my managers that I was writing an album while I was overseas. I told them that I needed to release it quickly before I got sick of the material, which was when I announced that the album was dropping.”
