This week saw the release of You Know What I Need by industry heavyweights PNAU and Troye Sivan. Its been a bit of a long wait for some original music from the Sydney based trio as 2022 was a year when they concentrated on remixes. Now that has all changed as they deliver their latest with the Grammy nominated singer songwriter, YouTuber and Actor.

PNAU are no stranger to collaborating with stars who sit at the very pinnacle of the game. You only have to hark back to their production prowess on Elton John and Dua Lipa’s ‘Cold Heart’. So magnificent was their work that it gave Sir Elton his first U.K. number one in 16 years.

You Know What I Need is typically a song that will speed up the charts and stay there. There’s a lot to love about it with the perfect blend of the laidback vibe that Sivan has always embraced and the upfront dance sensibilities of PNAU. It’s all there for everyone to feel and hear. Infectious hooks, some floating synths and a vocal arrangement that hits all the high points.

If you have been living under a rock, you may not know that PNAU’s frontman Nick Littlemore is also one half of Empire of The Sun. Between that and all of other demands on his time, this may be a reason behind the delay in new material, but he was happy to share his thoughts in a recent press statement. “Working with Troye again has been amazing. When we wrote this song, we had no idea that we will get so lucky to have Troye Sivan singing and bringing his unbridled creativity to the world of PNAU.”

What Has Troye Been Up To?

Hailed as “the perfect pop star” by TIME, Troye’s numerous awards include a Billboard Music Awards trophy, three MTV Europe Music awards and two GLAAD Media wins. This is his third single of 2022, following collaborations with Jay Som and Gordi for the Three Months soundtrack. But for everything else, Troye is dropping breadcrumbs and is a notorious tease. He has continued to state that there is an album coming out next year. The untitled project will be his third studio album, and hopefully be a welcome return to form after the previously stunning ‘Blue Neighbourhood’ in 2015 and ‘Bloom’ in 2018.

Beside the work with PNAU he has also sent out a request to K-pop group BTS suggesting they should come together for a track. He was also cast last year in the upcoming series The Idol which includes Lily Rose-Depp, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Mike Dean and Hank Azaria.

You Know What I Need Video

With a video that has appears to have dropped more LSD than a veteran of Woodstock, ‘You Know What I Need’ has been produced by immersive studio MELT. If you cannot get enough of Sivan, check out what he looks like when an AI gets involved.

Don’t believe us? You decide. No matter what you think the song is a hit.
